“Ah- it’s alright. If you weren’t gone, I wouldn’t have had to learn how to do these things by myself for the future, anyway…”
Ding dong! You guessed correctly. You get my desperate muse on a silver platter. Be sure to get him ‘rekt’ just right.
Shinichi smiled at C-ta before he leaned over and brushed at the other’s bangs..
“I missed you, C-ta.”
Somewhere along the lines, he had wished he and C-ta could have disappeared together in his absence. That would have been the nicest way to leave the scene for a while.
Okay then. C-ta simply looked up at him and then gestured heavily to the paperwork on his desk that Shinichi just graciously sat on. “I’ve been doing your job.”
Hey, let’s play a game! I’ll give you a reward if you guess the colour of some balls in this office.
Hint: we’re not talking about the soccer balls Shinichi liked to keep around.
“Oh.” He lowly voiced. “Thanks for that. Things must have been rough on you then. I’m sorry.”
“Eh?” C-ta didn’t understand the confusion. “I’m leaving for home, so isn’t it normal to resign…? Since I won’t be here anymore…”
No, he can’t! He can’t leave. That wasn’t allowed, was it? They both had built lives here, worked at TCDF– they were friends, partners; perhaps even more, but God forbid he knew or could manage something romantically with C-ta.
“I’ve been thinking for about it for a while now, but I’m pretty home sick.” C-ta chuckled, leaning his arm on the back of his chair and turning to look at Shinichi.
“I don’t know the notice period for resignation, though, and it’s a big step, so I guess I’m stalling.”
“Oh, I see.” He said, blinking quite a bit. His gaze casually turned back to his work. “So that’s how it is. You’re going to–”
“Even so…” He looked thoughtful for a moment, the cutting getting slower.
“Since I’m thinking about leaving the city for a while, it’s probably best that I don’t get any love letters, right?”
Shinichi stopped playing with the letters to turn back to C-ta, his expression showing a mild sign of concern. This was the first time he heard of this.
C-ta laughed, sitting upright again and picking up a letter opener.
“That’s kind of sweet of you, Shinichi. I can somewhat understand why you get as many love letters as you do.” He mused, beginning to tear open the brown envelopes.
Shinichi wanted to punch himself in the face, but instead he blushed and looked down again.
“Un… I suppose.” He hadn’t said that just to comfort C-ta though. He just wanted to ask him out for another date without making it too awkward. SIGH. Back to mindlessly looking through the letters then.
“I wouldn’t make a very good date.” He smiled. “I’ve told you that before.”
“No, I don’t get things like that, but I don’t mind.” Why would he? Unlike Shinichi, C-ta’s main goal in life was not to stick out like a sore thumb. Besides, he was bad with girls to begin with and he couldn’t imagine having to go through the trouble of formally rejecting their letters. He considered himself lucky.
“You told me that, but I actually do think you’d make a very good date.” Since they had gone on several ‘dates’ before. He enjoyed all of them to some extent.
“I mean… going out with you is always enjoyable.” He just had to make sure not to mentally break C-ta again. “I really wouldn’t mind spending Valentine’s Day with you.”
“Ah… Valentine’s is just a normal day for an ordinary person like me, Shinichi.” C-ta said fondly, sitting down at his desk and leaning forward on his knuckle. “… But I guess I’ve never had a reason to celebrate it, aha.”
“Ah, so you don’t have a lover either?”
“I guess it does become kind of bland then…” Yes! Yes!! Please say Shinichi is right, C-ta. Tell him you’re single. Victory yell!!!! Good God. "What about letters, though? Received any?“
